The magical land set amidst the
desolate desert beauty. The land synonymous with romance and
chivalry. Immensely rich in cultural history and natural beauty.
That's Rajasthan. Everything about Rajasthan fascinates from miles
of golden stretches of sand to the kaleidoscope of magnificent
forts, opulent palaces and marvelous havelis, each a splendid
architectural creation having a legend of its own. The beautifully
laid out gardens and lakes, contrasting perfectly with the hilly

HAWA MAHAL : The Palace
of Winds is the most recognizable monument of Jaipur. The five
storeyed pyramidal building with overhanging latticed balconies is
unique in conception and is designed to catch the cool breeze on
hot summer days.
AMER FORT : Amber, the capital of former Jaipur State (Dhundhar)
stands atop a range of craggy hills to the north of Jaipur and was
the capital of the Kachhawah Rajputs for six centuries. This forts
is a splendid architectural fusion of Rajput and Mughal styles.
The elegant red sandstone and white marble pavilions - set alight
by the setting sun on a summer eve-when reflected in the lake at
the foot of the hill, is a sight to behold.
JANTAR MANTAR : This observatory was built during the reign
of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, in the 18th century. These huge
instruments were used to study the movement of constellations and
stars in the sky. Enormous Sun-dials still provide the accurate
time, subject to daily corrections, which are displayed on boards
every day, such that one can set one's watch with precision.
JAIGARH FORT : 15 Kms away, standing on a high hill, this
overlooks the palaces and city of Amer below. Jaigarh was
constructed according to the guidelines given in the Purans and
the Shilp Shastra by Kakil Dev. The world's biggest canon on
wheels is positioned here and dates back to 1720 AD, built by
Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. It has a 20 feet long barrel and wheels
are nine feet in diameter. On the way to Amber, this small palace is set
in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. A paved causeway leads up to the
beautiful palace.
NAHARGARH FORT (TIGER FORT) : Situated on a hill about 600
feet above the city, the fort also known as Sundarshangarh, was
built in 1734 AD for the defense of the city. The walls of the
fort run along the ridge and within are architectural beauties
such as the Hawa Mandir and Madhvendra Bhawan.
SISODIA RANI KA BAGH : 8 KM on the road to Agra, it was
built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1710, for his Queen. It
consists of a central room with galleries on three sides. Around
it lie terraced gardens graced by fountains and pools. Their
elegance is further enhanced by magnificent pieces of sculpture.

Niwas Garden. The foundation of this graceful building was laid in
1876 AD by Prince Albert. The museum contains a large collection
of archeological and handicraft pieces.
CITY PALACE MUSEUM : The museum displays a large variety of
items collected by the late Maharajas & Maharanis. Royal dresses,
arms, jewellery an interesting collection of chariots and royal
hauds, offer a glimpse of life in those times. |
